USS Wyoming/Cheney Scholarship awarded to Madison Deming

Graduating senior Madison Deming received the USS Wyoming / Honorable Richard M. I. Cheney Scholarship. She was graduating from Camden County High School in Kingsland, GA. Captain Wayne Wall, former USS Wyoming CO, and COB Dan Bellow, formerly of USS Wyoming presented the award to her.


About the scholarship

The USS Wyoming / Honorable Richard M. I. Cheney Scholarship was created in 1997. Consideration is given to academic performance, financial need, personal conduct, reputation, and extracurricular involvement, service to the community, demonstration of patriotism and good citizenship, unique or distinguishing qualities, educational goals and recommendations from counselors and or administrators who have direct knowledge of the individual.All crew members, both past and present as well as their dependent children and grandchildren are eligible for the scholarship. Since the boat is home ported away from Wyoming, the crew-members present and past as well as their dependent children and grandchildren may apply. Additionally, a scholarship will be awarded annually to a Wyoming resident who is about to graduate or who has graduated from an accredited high school in the state and/or who will be attending a Wyoming accredited post secondary school, including the University of Wyoming, any of the Community Colleges in Wyoming as well as Wyoming technical or trade schools.
